: MY canary "couple" had 2 offspring. after 3 1/2 weeks I serpated the young. They screamed for a night and day until I put them back in the parents cage. I originally removed them because the father was pecking them. I think they are both male and he is threatened (?) Now the mother has a new nest with 3 eggs. I want to remove the "terrible two" --- : How long does it take for them to be weaned ? ( the father seems to still feed them even though there are occasional squirmishes) But the mother gets very frustrated with them if they get near her nest....she squawks and chases them ! actually I am becoming concerned. Now - There are only 2 eggs left in teh nest. Either the 2 young canaries ate it (???) or maybe it broke and the mother ate it ? there is no evidence of the 3rd egg. any advice about screaming young....? They are one month old now ! how long does it take for them to be totally weaned ? do eggs sometimes get eaten ? thanks - any input welcome !Hello Nina: The canary chicks should be weaned by now. They are over 1 month and that is plenty of time. I would put them in a separate cage with the Dad and let him continue feeding them unless he does peck at them. In that case I would also put him in another cage also. If at all possible place the cages near to one another so they can see but cause no trouble. This way Mom will be at peace. I would also remove the nest after the new chicks Mom has are weaned. Eggs are sometimes eaten and it is hard to say who is eating them most likely Dad. If he is eating them you should never let him breed again as this is not good. All males should be in their own cages as canary males like their own space and 1 con become dominant and the less dominant male can starve to death. The rule is: no 2 males can be together 3 males are ok and 4 are even better. They need at least 25 inches of flying space. I hope this helps you. Good Luck, Grace
