: I bought my red factor canary last October and knew he would molt this summer. I'm assuming what I'm seeing now is his molt but I didn't know it would look so dramatic. For the past month or so he has been losing little feathers here and there, but suddenly over the past week, he has lost so many feathers on his breast that I can see his skin! Is this normal? He is still singing a little and seems to be in good spirits. After reading all of the canary messages, I think you are suggesting to keep him in a quite area and let him sleep longer than he usually would. Other than a good canary seed mix,his red food and a little lettuce twice/week, I've not given him anything special. What do you think about all of this? Hello Stanley: I can only suggest that you also feed him condition food, along with green vegatables such as broccoli, broccoli raba, romaine lettuce, apple, nectarine and I also make him corn muffins and you could also try feeding cous cous. This variety of foods may help your canary and it may not. It is worth a try. For cous cous you go to the international section of your super market to find it. Get the plain cous cous. It is easy to prepare, all you have to do is follow the directions on the box. |
