: Please give me some advice. I want to build an aviary on my porch (the porch is closed). Also, will parakeets breed in the aviary or will i have to seperate the breeding couple to another cage. Also, please tell me what kind of nests i should use in the aviary and what kind of toys i should have, thanks. I want the size of the aviary to be 1.20 meters long and 1.20 meters high and 60 cm wide.Sergio, When you biuld your aviairy make sure you have a catch. That is an enclosed place you walk into first before you open the door to the birds. That way if they get past you they will enter the catch and not escape outside and make sure the door is short so you have to bend down to get in, birds fly up and this will help to prevent any escapees. Also make sure you mouse proof it. A strong wire with holes too small for the mice to get through is best. cover the walls and the floor with it. The floor should be concreat for easiest cleaning. The reason you need the wire on the concreat floor is if there is a crack in it the mice will work at it untill the can get through(personal experience). Wood can mold to easy. Your local pet store should have nest boxes for parakeets. Look at them and make sure the bottom inside is slightly concave so eggs will not roll into the corners. If you want they are very easy to make. if you don't care about the parantage of the babies just leave them in the aviairy to pick their own partners. Good luck and keep us posted. Jodi
