my bird has gone blind

hi wondering if u have any tips or anything helpful to aid us with our scaley breasted lorikeet.He has gone totally blind,the vet says we have the option of putting him down or trying to help him survive by helping him find his food etc and keeping his feet clean and not having any mishaps like falling off a perch.All he seems to be doing is sleeping and is to frightened to move around even though he should know his cage,and he squacks and cries when he is hungry as he can't find his food or water.Do you or anyone else have any suggestions,we are really fond of our bird but don't want to be cruel by keeping him alive if he is in distress.Also the vet has no idea why he went blind.Hoping u have any info that could help us.
