If you provide a dry, draft free coop and an outside flight where the birds can enjoy the sunshine, doves can survive the New Jersey winters. This is exactly the same sort of shelter that racing and fancy pigeons require.

If you have only one or two birds, it will be much safer to keep the birds indoors.
