sexing doves can be easy if the are of breeding age. the females start to lay infertile eggs well before they are mated. the male generally can be relied upon to coo and bow around any other doves, male or female. you may also feel for the egg passage though the pelvic bone. to do this, hold the dove in one hand on its back, and gently feel with a finger between the doves legs. you should feel the pelvic bone just under the skin. i find that females generaly have a gap wide enough for my fingertip to rest in, whereas males have a gap too narrow to feel between, and the ends of the bones are sharper to the touch. i have about 50 ringneck doves, some natural colored, some white, and some pied. all are from an original 7 birds i adopted, which were all pied. best wishes and good luck with your new doves!
